Sophie Mossa January 2025
This is my second season with TBII from Tulsa Ballet,
The year started off with a Triple Bill in which TBII danced “Something to Remember You By” by Stephanie Martinez. In this contemporary piece I had the opportunity to dance a pas de deux on a beautiful Chopin’s Preludes.
I was then lucky enough to go on my first tour with the company as we performed “Strictly Gershwin” by Derek Deane OBE in Cleveland, Ohio. In this exciting and spectacular ballet, I very much enjoyed dancing in Opening, An American in Paris as well as Rhapsody in Blue.
Once back in Tulsa, the next production was “Dracula” by Ben Stevenson OBE. Being a Bride was challenging as I tried to embody someone who is opposite to my personality but it was very fulfilling in the end.
Tulsa Ballet II then performed Ma Cong’s “Peter and the Wolf”, I had the opportunity to be the Blue Bird. It was very refreshing to dance for kids and tell them a story with our bodies.
The last show of 2024 was of course the yearly production of “The Nutcracker”, Tulsa Ballet performs their own version by Ma Cong and Val Caniparoli in which I was a Snowflake and a Flower.
We are currently working on the very exciting and promising world premiere of Kenneth Tindall’s “Alice in Wonderland” for our upcoming shows this February and March. I am very grateful to be part of the creation of a full length ballet and can’t wait to see where the rest of the season unfolds.
When I’m not in a ballet studio or at the theatre, I like to crochet, draw or do scrapbooking, spend time with my friends (perhaps going around town to search for the best matcha!), take photos with my Polaroid, cook, go to Pilates… and as boring at that sounds I like to clean my apartment every Sunday, there is something very therapeutic about it and it makes me feel ready to start the new week!
I’d like to give a special thank you to the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation, I am very happy here in Tulsa and this wouldn’t have been possible without their support during my time as a student at ESB.
